Essential to its educational activities is the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park’s docent program. Docents are involved with our free Sunday Tours, our Sculpture in the Classroom program and other public and private events.

Volunteers are given a series of training sessions and materials to prepare them to lead tours, give slide lectures and work with students in classrooms, implementing our Sculpture in the Classroom program. As part of the training program, docents learn effective techniques to keep viewers engaged and interested. Training sessions are held in the park, weather permitting, and indoors during the winter months.

In addition to learning about the Sculpture Park and its sculptures, docents will also have the opportunity to visit sculptures in other Chicago area locations and hear general art history lectures given by experienced art educators. Our docents become, not only well versed about our sculptures but are exposed to a general program of art education and have fun and camaraderie in the process.

Docents can also volunteer to assist board members and staff with other activities and functions of the Sculpture Park such as with publicity, research, public relations and special events.

The docent program is supervised by our director, Chris Plummer. You can contact him by calling the Sculpture Park at 847-679-4265

WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2008 SEASON. TRAINING SESSIONS WILL BEGIN SOON.
